Meet E. G. Raasmann, PhD
I’m a writer, technologist, and traveller whose journey has taken me from Nigeria to the Soviet Union during the Cold War. My memoir Contragenius is a reflection of the extraordinary and unpredictable life I’ve lived, offering a glimpse into the intersection of history, technology, faith, and personal transformation.
My Journey
Born and raised in Nigeria, I pursued my studies in Tashkent and Moscow, where I witnessed first-hand the complexities of ideology, technology, and cultural identity. My time in the Soviet Union was marked by both personal and intellectual challenges, but it was also a period of immense growth. I went to the USSR as a boy and left as a man.
My studies in the USSR were interspersed with a new chapter in my life when I became a member of the International Churches of Christ in Texas, returning to Moscow and joining the missionary team. This experience shaped my worldview and reinforced my belief in the power of faith to transform lives. Navigating the tension between personal convictions and institutional religion has been an ongoing theme in my life.
Later, I moved to London, where I faced yet another transformation – building a new life from the ground up in a city full of opportunities but also immense struggles. My time in London tested my resilience, challenged my ambitions, and ultimately solidified my belief in the importance of perseverance and resilience.
